Live in Lexington Concert Series

Community Outreach

STAR Program logo

In conjunction with their appearances for the LIVE! in Lexington concerts, many of the visiting artists offer student performances in addition to the regular concerts. LIVE! in Lexington attempts to book these educational opportunities for local youth whenever possible. The LIVE! in Lexington Concert Series is extremely grateful to be the sole recipient of the Kramer Endowment Fund for underwriting the cost of our STAR Education Program, which has served hundreds of students in numerous schools the past few years.

The STAR Education Student Outreach Program is under the auspices of Live On Stage, Inc. It is their belief, and ours, that the youth in our audiences are our future concert goers and performers. To that end, artists are encouraged to offer educational programming that supplements and enhances the concert performance. The Star Education Program offers artists the opportunity to present either a 45-minute Master Class or a 45-minute matinee performance. These programs are specifically designed to spark interest and enthusiasm in the performing arts and to introduce "world class" artists to students and local communities on a personal level.

The Hunt Family Fiddlers, who will be the first performers in our 2009-2010 season, will be performing a matinee for students of the Lexington High School and Middle School in September, 2009. Instead of a shortened version of their regular performance, the matinee will be geared more towards "Q&A" with emphasis on descriptions of instruments. Lots of fast-paced fiddling, Irish step dancing, descriptions of rhythms, and instruments to include: violins, guitars, accordions, djembe, ashiko, cajon, etc. (This performance will be closed to the public.)
